The In Flanders Fields series

In Flanders Fields is a series of poignant and evocative choral works with a theme of reconciliation and remembrance, set to iconic texts by John McCrae and Rupert Brooke.

Julian Abel Smith is a British composer and since becoming a cathedral chorister at the age of nine, he has maintained his love of the Anglican choral tradition. He started his musical training at Worcester Cathedral and from then went on to study the piano and composition with Malcolm Drummond, and also the organ, with Adrian Partington. He gained a choral scholarship and subsequent music scholarship at King's School, Worcester and was subsequently organist at Norton and Whittington parish churches in Worcestershire.

After taking a different path to study and practice Medicine, he returned to his passion of composing and the organ. He is now Assistant Organist at St Nicholas Parish Church, Harpenden, and continues as a composer, writing in various genres of music, including church choral music.

Two of his early compositions won first and second prize at the annual Bach Choir Carol Competition when he was 16 years of age, performed at the Royal Albert Hall, London under the direction of Sir David Willcocks. Later, he also won the Pershore Young Composer of the year award and in 2014 he was selected as a finalist in the RSCM (Australia) composition competition, writing a new mass setting for the Eucharist.
