Composed for British jazz bassist Ben Groenevelt, Pizz. Poem Basso is an entertaining and engaging one-movement work which is played pizzicato throughout. It was premiered at Wells Cathedral School on 29 September 2013 by Ben Groenevelt, and was inspired after his inspiring jazz pizzicato and bass guitar workshops at Bass-Fest 2013.
Teppo Hauta-aho is a past master at creating magical and inventive works for unaccompanied double bass and this piece doesn't disappoint. There are music and technical challenges aplenty and great scope to create exciting performances which will always communicate with an audience.
Pizz. Poem Basso continues a long list of pizzicato works by this leading Finnish bassist-composer, and offers much as a study or recital work. It was premiered by Ben Groenevelt in Wells (Somerset) on 28 September 2014.
