Scored for solo double bass (or cello) and string orchestra.
These were originally arranged for strings in the 1880s by Rimsky-Korsakov. Susanin's Aria (from Ivan Susanin) and Ruslan's Aria (from Ruslan and Ludmilla) are full of Russian style and character, offering lyrical and melodic challenges for the intermediate soloist.
Suitable for Grade 6/7 level, they are also published with piano accompaniment (RM334). The rich and sonorous register of the double bass or cello evoke the quality of these lyrical Russian arias offering new and evocative repertoire for the intermediate string orchestra and soloist.
Other arrangements by Rimsky-Korsakov are in preparation.
The edition is published with a score and parts (Solo.4.4.3.3.2).
