George Whitefield Chadwick (1854-1931) was an American composer who studied in Leipzig and Munich and in 1897 he was appointed Director of the New England Conservatory in Boston. He was a fairly prolific composer, writing in most genres, and his out put includes operas, three symphonies, orchestral works, string quartets alongside choral and vocal music. He was an influential teacher and one of America's most popular composers during his lifetime, although his music is less well known today.
