The Introduction to Chamber Music series
These string quartets have been written to conform as much as possible to the style and form employed by the early classical masters such as Haydn and Mozart, and in them will be found examples of what is likely to be met with when the time comes for the playing of the chamber music works of these composers.
The parts are so written that it is possible for all the instrumentalists to play them in the first position. The absence of serious difficulties makes the task of concentrating upon listening to the other parts a matter of ease, thus cultivating one of the fundamental principles in the building up of good ensemble.
