Percussion Plus Kyamba. Hexagonal shaker.
The kayamba rattle is normally a flat percussion instrument originating from Kenya and made of reeds, woods and beads or stones. The reeds are woven into two mats mounted on a wooden frame and sometimes separated by the beads or stones. When shaken or beaten the reed mats rustle together to make a dry, sandy sound, creating complex rhythms. It has grown in popularity because of its unique sound. The kayamba rattle is assumed to be one of the oldest rattles - in fact the name Kayamba is the Swahili word for rattle.
Made in Kenya, this hexagonal shaped kayamba can be shaken or rolled to create different effects and is brightly decorated in a traditional Kenya design.
