This release presents the complete original two-volume album Louis Armstrong at the Crescendo (Decca DL 8168/69) plus all other existing material from that evening's sets. The 1955 All Stars included well known figures such as trombonist Trummy Young, clarinettist Barney Bigard, and pianist Billy Kyle.

As a bonus, various broadcast performances by the exact same formation of the All Stars captured live at the Basin Street Club in New York the previous year, as well as three rarities: two film soundtrack songs taped in Copenhagen in 1959, and a 1956 commercial spot which presents Louis promoting a brand of beer.
