Simon started off playing trumpet, piano and also singing. On completion of A-levels, he studied music at Dartington College of Arts in Devon, majoring in composition (song writing and instrumental), and graduated in 1994 with honours. Using key skills acquired, Simon became involved in community arts projects at Dartington Primary School, and later through Rugby & District Recreational Activities Council working with groups aged 4-17 years. A number of commercial releases followed, including licensed production music, resulting in provisional membership of the PRS in 1999.
2000 - present: concentrating entirely on educational instrumental music, with particular focus on compositions (both solo and group) of approximately grades 3-5, Simon's music currently draws on classical, jazz and popular music styles. He always aims to try and write pieces which are flexible (i.e. not governed by a particular combination of instruments), that hopefully help towards developing general musicianship, and above all are fun and exciting to play.
Simon Cunliffe combines composing with working in the antiquarian and second hand book trade, and also collecting sheet music.
