The Christmas Choral & Vocal Music series

Recital Music has developed a large, exciting and eclectic catalogue of Christmas music for choirs in recent years. Some works are published for the first time, others are in new editions, and we aim to provide accessible and enjoyable choral music for choirs of all ages and abilities. Enjoy!

Ring Out, Wild Bells! was awarded 1st Prize (category 1) in Recital Music's 2012 Christmas Carol Competition.

The composer writes: 'This setting of the famous poem by Tennyson is full of rhythmic energy. After a short fanfare-like opening sung by a cappella voices, the piano enters and drives the music forward with its syncopated cross rhythms. Throughout the piece, there is a tension created by alternating, and sometimes superimposing, different groupings of the almost constant quavers. The tension is also maintained by the subtly dissonant harmonies which eventually resolve into a thrilling C major climax.'

Ring Out, Wild Bells! was premiered at St Clement Danes (The Strand, London) on Tuesday 18 December 2012 by The Giltspur Singers of London, conducted by Christopher Maxim.
