Composer Information: Andrew Wilson

Andrew showed a keen interest in Music from at an early age and at the age of ten he won a scholarship to study the piano and the clarinet at the junior school of Royal Academy of Music. ln l987 he gained a place at the Royal Northern College of Music to study clarinet and saxophone with John Reynolds and Neville Duckworth. During his time at the R.N.C.M. he performed concertos on both instruments with the Chamber Orchestra and Wind Orchestra, and as a member of the Big Band he had the opportunity to play alongside many great names in Jazz such as: John Dankworth, Lew Tebakin, Tommy Whittle, Jim Snidero, Kathy Stobart, Stan Barker and Digby Fairwether. He graduated in 1991 with a first class honours degree and the professional performance diploma.

Much of his time is spent performing with the Adelphi Saxophone Quartet, who perform both nationally and internationally at venues including: the Purcell Room, Barbican Centre, St James's Church Piccadilly, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Bridgewater Hall, the British Saxophone Congess, the World Saxophone Congress in Montreal, Candan and as part of the Park Lane Group Young Artists Series. The Quartet received a major award from the John Tunnell Trust and were finalists in the 1997 Royal Overseas League Competition. They have broadcast live on Radio 3, Classic FM, Granada Television and the Quartet's debut CD, "Simply Four Saxophones", which was released in 1998 with EMI has brought critical acclaim for the level of musicianship and ensemble playing that it displays.

As a freelance musician he has recorded numerous times for television and radio including many jingles and adverts. He has worked extensively in Orchestras, including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Big Bands, the theatre and also plays in a variety of small Jazz ensembles. He has performed many concertos and has given numerous recitals throughout England and Wales including as guest soloist with the Morriston Orpheus Choir and in 1997, he gave the first performance of a Concerto written especially for him for Alto Saxophone and Recorder Orchestra. Andrew enjoys composing and arranging and three of his pieces are selected for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College exams. Andrew teaches Saxophone and Clarinet extensively including at Chethams School, Manchester.
