Attractive spiccato study
Ezra Jenkinson is one of many composers throughout history whose music has survived longer than their personal reputations. Elfentanz (Dance of the Fairies) is an attractive spiccato study originally written for the violin. It is a wonderful piece for encouraging the use of the double tongue, using the syllables ‘da-ga’ rather than the more harsh ‘tu-ku’. To perform this work with style the player should strive to shape the phrases in a light and nimble manner, gliding over the notes rather than digging in!
