The Beginner Bass Series series
Recital Music publish music for every level of double bassist and in the past few years have concentrated on music for the younger player. This new and exciting series includes works with simple, accessible technical and musical challenges for beginners and progressing bassists. Piano accompaniments are supportive and written with the bass teacher in mind, creating a new repertoire which is ideal for concert and educational use.
"In the teaching of composition the use of pastiche can be a good learning tool. I decided to use the 'model' of the Baroque dance suite for my set of pieces for Double Bass and Piano" [Jeffery Wilson]
Dance Suite is a suite of six short pieces for the progressing double bassist. The piano accompaniments are accessible, playable by a teacher with some pianistic skills, and each piece offers simple musical and technical challenges for the young bassist. Employing a range of keys and time signatures, only employing half to fifth position, these are ideal as study or concert repertoire.
A range of musical styles and idoms offer creative possibilities for the double bassist, always within a lyrical and musical framework, and Dance Suite, only Jeffery Wilson's second composition for double bass, is a welcome addition to the junior bass repertoire.
