Plaisir d'Amour is probably Jean-Paul-Egide Martini's most famous song, although it is sometimes wrongly attributed to G.B. Martini. It has been arranged for every instrument and probably every instrumental combination, and was even the basis for an Elvis Presley song.
This new edition returns to the 1850s orchestration of the song by Hector Berlioz and presents two versions of the solo part for double bass - one a simple presentation of the melody and the second with double stops in the middle section for the more adventurous bassist. The accompaniment is simple and effective, with its gently rocking arpeggio figurations and more expressive links between verses, and accompaniments for both solo and orchestral tuning are included.
This edition was made in 2009, in memory of Frantisek Posta (1919-1991), Principal Double Bass of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra for over 40 years, who performed Plasir d'Amour throughout his career as an encore in every recital.
The music is ideal for any good intermediate bassist and demonstrates the lyrical and cantabile qualities of the solo double bass in a rich and vibrant register.
Two orchestrations are available:
1) Double Bass & String Orchestra (also playable with string quartet or quintet)
2) Double Bass & Chamber Orchestra
