The Transcriptions Series series

Recital Music publish a wealth of original works for double bass alongside a popular, accessible and growing range of transcriptions for bassists of all ages and abilities. Most transcriptions published by Recital Music are by David Heyes, who has a successful and proven track record when arranging for double bass.

"Thank you for Dindirin, Dindirin! We played it as a septet last night in the Wigan strings concert and it went down a treat. Very effective and we all loved working on it." [Gemma Ashcroft]

The composer of Dindirin, Dindirin is unknown, but one opinion is that it is by Mateo Flecha el Viejo and set to an anonymous 15th-century Spanish text. It transcribes well for double bass quartet, also playable by larger forces, and would work well with an added percussion accompaniment.

David Heyes created the edition for the Bristol Bass Club (B.B.C.), founded in March 2015 by David Heyes and Ben Groenevelt, and the four bass parts are aimed at specific ability levels. A range of performance styles create a wealth of 16th-century soundworlds including arco, pizzicato, sul ponticello, col legno and Bartok pizzicato.

Bass 1 has most of the melodic material in and ventures into low thumb position with simple but effective harmonics to add height and a different texture to the ensemble.

Bass 2 is an important part which links the melody with the lower bass parts and features work across the middle positions, with a few simple harmonics thrown in for good measure.

Bass 3 goes no higher than 3rd position and is an important part which adds to the textures and harmonies, well supporting the lowest part.

Bass 4 remains in 1st position throughout with the addition of Bartok pizzicato which has echoes of Biber's Battaglia.

The edition includes a score and parts.
