As indicated by the non-use of bar lines, the opening idea of this piece is very much in a free style. The tambour should be as dry as possible and by moving the fingers in a rapid movement upon the belly of the guitar an echo effect can be achieved by progressively moving the 'hammering' fingers past the perimeter of the sound hole and around the bridge. Overall the piece, as the name suggests, is rustic in nature so the beat is strong and quite bold. Rústico is the Spanish/Portuguese term for a man from the country, the rhythms of the piece following the pensive introduction suggests a rustic dance.
