A welcome new arrival to the flute repertoire...The six concertos in Op.6 were apparently unpublished during Abel's lifetime, and it is thanks to the efforts of flautist Edward Beckett that we now have this beautiful printed edition... a special mention must be given to the slow movement of the fourth concerto in C: it is breathtakingly beautiful. The excellent piano reduction is by internationally-acclaimed harpsichordist Robert Aldwinckle. Highly recommended for the grade 8-plus performer.
Ann Cherry for Music Teacher Magazine
The six flute concertos by Abel were all fairly early works. Abel, for a time a pupil of J.S. Bach, was a friend and mentor to the young Mozart...Indeed, one can see some structural and melodic similarities between the two (concertos) in this volume and the the two written by Mozart some 20 years later...The second concerto, in E minor, is musically more rewarding, displaying more complex rhythms and greater melodic invention

These two concertos will be welcomed by advanced players who love Baroque music.
