The practice of scales is indispensable for obtaining technical ability; unfortunately, it is too often neglected, in default of a good system of fingering.

To make scale-practice really profitable, it is not enough for the student to play a scale from tonic to tonic; he must, besides, accustom himself to vary the rhythm and phrasing, and he should begin successively on each degree of the diatonic scale.

Such is the aim of the little work which we herewith offer to clarinettists.
