The existence of a violin concerto by Robert Schumann was kept secret by his wife Clara and its dedicatee Joseph Joachim. Too many circumstances and personal agendas led to the premiere taking place some 84 years later. The great beauty of the slow movement, Langsam, is one of the reasons for the concerto gaining popularity. The version presented here proposes a way to play it as a free-standing piece.
