Sofie Menter was one of the piano giants of the 19th century and a friend of both Tchaikovsky and Liszt. Consolation (1910) is a typical salon piece, lyrical and pleasant; Romance (1907), however, promises something more. Both originally for piano they have been expertly transcribed for cello and piano by the international soloist and chamber musician Mats Lidström.
