Composer Information: Andy Jakob

Andrew Jakob studied bassoon with Geoffrey Gambold and Martin Gatt. Since leaving the Royal College of Music in 1979 with an ARCM, he has pursued an active career as a freelance player working with BBC Concert Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, RTE Symphony and Concert Orchestras, Seville Symphony Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, English Northern Philharmonia and the East of England Orchestra. He has performed solo concertos at Queen Elizabeth Hall, London and the Pump Rooms in Bath as well as recitals with the Nova Marlborough Wind Quintet at the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room and Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He taught bassoon and saxophone at both St. Pauls Girls and Boys Schools for seven years as well as holding many general woodwind posts.

Since moving to North Lincolnshire in 1993, he has taught general woodwind for North Lincolnshire Council, studied a degree course with the Open University, and plays all woodwind instruments. Since 2004, he has worked full-time for the Lincolnshire Music Service and is woodwind coach for the Lincolnshire Youth Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted the Isle of Axholme Orchestra and Room21 community jazz band for five years and enjoys composing and arranging especially in the lighter styles. He is a keen golfer but swings better with a saxophone.
