Betty Naughton

Composer Information: Betty Naughton

Betty Naughton (FTCL) was born in 1930 and lives in York

In the 1970s Betty worked in the Leeds schools as a peripatetic pianist playing, composing and recording music for Modern Educational Dance.

A member of EPTA she won First Prize in category 6 in the EPTA composers' competition 2004 which rekindled her love for composition.

Her main interest has been in private piano teaching (though latterly somewhat restricted) the greatest joy coming from stimulating the imagination of children. The children have always been encouraged to express their own musical thoughts in composition from the very beginning and she believes that lessons must be FUN!

She is also a professional painter, achieving a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art as a mature student, and many of her paintings are inspired by music. Betty encourages children to draw or paint pictures they can 'hear' in music and likewise interpret music they can 'see' in painting.

Her latest compositions, being published by Nymet Music, are descriptive and tuneful linked to activities in which children love to engage.
