Composer Information: Ira-Paul Schwarz

Ira-Paul Schwarz, Professor and Composer-in-Residence Emeritus at State University of New York, Brockport, studied music at Morningside College, University of South Dakota, University of Iowa, Eastman School of Music and Harvard University. His composition teachers included Nadia Boulanger, Philip Bezanson and Richard Hervig.

His works include music for orchestra, concert band, chamber ensembles, jazz groups, carillon and chorus. Stage works include four operas, incidental music, dance pieces and reviews. He has written four books and numerous articles on music and related arts.

Recordings of his works include Rosa's Rhapsody, a tribute to Rosa Parks, by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Robert Stankovsky (released by MCC Recordings); Chromatic Essay for clarinet and string orchetra, performed by Mikhail Ounanian and the Russian Symphonic Capella conducted by Constanin Kremetz; Fragments and Variations for soprano and piano, recorded by Denise Milner and Rose Shlyam Grace (North/South Recordings); Harlequin Suite for flute choir by the US National Flute Association Choir conducted by Amy Rice Blumenthal (CD and music produced and published by Alry Publications Etc. Inc.); and Celtic Concerto for penny whistle and orchestra by the Moravian Philarmonic conducted by Vit Micka with soloist Lenka Filova (MCC Recordings, music published by Goodmusic).

Dr Schwarz moved to England in 1998 where he is active as a composer and writer.
