Haydn Harris

Composer Information: Haydn Harris


Haydn Harris is a versatile brass player who has had a long and illustrious career. Between 1950 and 1960, Haydn was a musician in the 3rd Hussars Band in Germany.  He played the trumpet in both Military and Big Band Concerts, alongside such greats as Vera Lynn, Ronnie Hilton and Malcolm Vaughan, as well as playing on the  "Dance Band circuit".
 
From 1960-70 he played solo horn with C.W.S. Manchester Band conducted by Alex Mortimer, winning many brass band contests. He was recorded during this time by Fontana Records and there where frequent broadcasts. He was a member of the Band Quartet, enjoying tours to Canada & Switzerland.
 
From 1970 to 1980 he arranged music, including the Saint-Saens Finale of Organ Symphony No 3 played at Gloucester Cathedral by the National Youth Band. His arrangement of Kikamora (Lyadov) was published by Boosey & Hawkes. During this time he was the solo horn player with Sun Life Band.
 
Haydn studied composition with Keith Amos and at the Birmingham Conservatoire. His composition "Romance" is available on CD, recorded by the Rosso Trio.
