Composer Information: Kay Charlton

Kay Charlton took a music degree at UEA, Norwich and started musical life in London in the mid 80’s. Since then she has played trumpet with various groups, including the Bollywood Brass Band.

She works as a trumpet and music tutor in South East London and is a workshop leader and composer for Trinity College London’s Music Tracks.  As Project Manager for Bollywood Brass Band she has done many musical arrangements, including re-arranging Bollywood tunes for different ensembles - school bands, wind bands and brass bands. In 2012 Kay composed the ‘Bollywood Blast’ tutor books and arrangements for a schools brass project; in 2013 the books were extended to woodwind. Kay has also had music published by Trinity College London, for their Piano syllabus and Music Tracks programme.

Kay's arrangement of the Bollywood Brass Band’s version of ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast’ was performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra at the London Mela, 2012 and she is consultant/ contributing editor for ‘How to Play the Dhol’ (Jas Daffu, published by The Bollywood Brass Band).
