Composer Information: Melanie Kyle

Melanie began her musical life learning violin, flute and piano through Kent Music School  from whom she gained a scholarship in 1994. In 1995 she won the City of Rochester-Upon-Medway Young Musician award, before going on to study at the Birmingham Conservatoire.  Whilst in Birmingham, Melanie was a student of the inspirational violinist, Mr Clive Lander.  She also received tuition in the Kodály concept of music education from Mr David Vinden, director of the International Kodály Society and the British Kodály Academy.  Under David’s encouragement and guidance, Melanie successfully gained a scholarship to study at the Zoltán Kodály International Pedagogical Institute of Music in Kecskemét, Hungary, from 2000-01.

Following her return from Hungary, Melanie taught violin privately before gaining a PGCE in secondary music teaching from Canterbury Christ Church College, in 2004.  Melanie continued to teach violin privately whilst gaining three years classroom experience.  Since 2008, Melanie has been working full time as a Licensed Music Teacher for Medway Music Association.  Her role has included a significant amount of teaching within the field of Wider Opportunities (violin, flute, choral singing, fife and elementary recorder).  She has also been heavily involved in the MMA’s summer school courses, and continues to lead a number of ensembles at one of the MMA’s music centres, including the newly-formed Medway Junior Youth Orchestra.
