Composer Information: Stephen Binnington

Stephen Binnington studied the organ with Alan Spedding at Beverley Minster, before continuing his musical studies at the RCM, London where his professors included John Birch, Hubert Dawkes and Herbert Sumsion.

For many years, Stephen combined work in education with freelance work as an organ recitalist, piano accompanist and choral conductor. He has performed throughout the UK and abroad, giving recitals in such notable venues as St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral. Stephen was the conductor of the Blandford Choral Society for 16 years. In August 2013 he was appointed organist and choirmaster at St. Gregory's Church, Marnhull and he enjoys a very busy freelance career.

He has written scripts and composed and arranged music for a series of musical presentations which have been performed in theatres, concert halls and schools. His published works include organ, choral and chamber music, some of which has featured in the ABRSM exam syllabus. His wife, Deborah, is a musician and they have two children.

Stephen's musical performances in their various guises have informed his published compositions for which he has received praise from such publications as Church Music Quarterly and Music Teacher:

"Stephen Binnington brings the art of writing short attractive miniatures in contemporary style to a high level."
