Katrina Gordon studied the Bassoon with John Orford at the Royal Academy of Music and with William Waterhouse at the Royal Northern College of Music. She went on to pursue a career as a freelance bassoon player in Scotland, regularly performing with a variety of orchestras including Scottish Opera and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
She now lives with her husband and two children in her native town of Thurso, located on the far north coast of Scotland, where her musical horizons have been widened by a lively amateur music scene. Katrina now enjoys playing trumpet in the Caithness Big Band, cornet in the Pentland Brass Band, percussion and horn in The Caithness Orchestra and is the enthusiastic musical director of the Caithness Handbell Ringers. She enjoys teaching and occasionally still plays the bassoon, but only ever for fun. All of Katrina’s compositions have been tailor-made to suit the individual needs of local musicians.
Thumb Thing Simple (SP880) is a set of trios, written for her daughter, Charlotte, who is working towards Grade One bassoon, to play alongside her old mum and dad.
